Design consultation for an outdoor living project in Downtown Cleveland, Ohio

BEDROCK OUTDOOR LIVING

DEFINED BY CONNECTION

We create outdoor environments that foster connection—to one another, to place, and to the natural world. Each project is approached with intention, resulting in spaces that feel considered, personal, and enduring. Collaborating closely with architects, designers, and homeowners, we deliver custom landscapes shaped by both vision and way of life.

Refined Craft. Disciplined Process.

Our work is grounded in craftsmanship and guided by a thoughtful, detail-driven process. We prioritize natural materials and local sourcing, allowing each landscape to feel rooted in its surroundings. With over 100 years of combined experience, our designers, stone masons, plant specialists, and project managers bring a shared commitment to quality—from groundbreaking through final planting.

OUR TEAM

David Wallis, Principal

David Wallis is the founder and president of Bedrock Outdoor Living. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, along with certificates in Conflict Management and Peace Studies—a foundation that continues to inform his collaborative, people-centered approach to building.

David’s relationship with craft began early. At the age of 13, he picked up his first stone chisel, igniting a lifelong passion for working with natural materials. In 2007, he founded Bedrock Outdoor Living and personally trained the team of artisans who continue to form the company’s core today. Together, they share a commitment to thoughtful process, refined craftsmanship, and landscapes built to endure.

Andrés Galvez, Lead Project Manager

Andrés Galvez leads project management and operations at Bedrock Outdoor Living, guiding each project through a disciplined, detail-driven process from planning through completion. Having joined the firm nearly two decades ago, he quickly earned a reputation for exceptional craftsmanship and a deep command of landscape construction.

Andrés plays a central role in upholding Bedrock’s standards in the field—coordinating teams, refining workflows, and ensuring that every detail is executed with intention. He also mentors and trains the next generation of artisans and builders, passing on a culture of craft, accountability, and respect for the work.

COMMUNITY

David Wallis, Principal of Bedrock Contracting, lived and worked in Thailand for over five years, teaching sociology and public speaking, and working extensively with the Burmese refugee community along the Thai–Burma border, teaching in schools, translating for NGOs, and supporting educational access through scholarship vetting.

After returning to the United States in 2009, David continued this work locally, supporting Northeast Ohio’s resettled refugee community. That same year, he and longtime collaborator Paul Neundorfer co-founded Re:Source, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to empowering international newcomer families to grow roots and become engaged, self-sufficient members of their communities.

In partnership with Ohio City Inc., David and Paul also helped establish Ohio City Farm, now one of the largest contiguous urban farms in the nation. Operated by Re:Source, the farm provides fresh, local, and healthy food to Cleveland residents while serving as a place of connection, education, and opportunity.

David served as Co-Director of Re:Source until 2017 and continues to serve on its Board. He remains actively involved internationally and has also worked in Cameroon training tribal councils in mediation while supporting refugee communities fleeing regional conflict.
